Boone is one of those places that’s filled with hidden gems. It takes a while to find them, but once you do those spots – restaurants, hiking trails, boutiques, etc. – will be your go-tos for years to come. As a student this is great, but as someone visiting the area this can be a little tough. (You’ll spend more time trying to figure out where you should go than actually visiting these spots.) So today, I’m here to help by sharing two of my Boone faves – Beacon Heights Rock and Our Daily Bread!! Plus, I’ll tell you how to style the perfect mountain top picnic!
The Blue Ridge Parkway is filled with amazing views and overlooks, but my favorite by far though, is Beacon Heights. It is a huge, flat rock face that looks out over miles of mountainous terrain. It is beautiful all year long but especially so when the leaves are changing. {Unfortunately, I think I missed that by a couple of weeks.}
Our Daily Bread {ODB} is a classic in Boone. It is founded on good food, good service and good people. They have the perfect variety of menu items and are great for any meal! Combine the two and you have the makings for a picture perfect picnic!
What do you need?
– A blanket
– A basket (or two)
– Some wine
– Apples or other seasonal fruit
– Smaller blankets or blanket scarves
– Cutting board(s) or platters
…. And good company! In my case, that was my mom. My mom is one of my best friends and biggest supporters. My thanks to her are endless, so when we were planning our trip, I knew I wanted to plan something special at a place that would wow her. Hope you loved it, Mom!Visiting Boone, NC some time soon? Check out these places for an unforgettable experience!

I love picnics! I wish Seattle's weather was a little more conducive to outdoor activities in late November and December, sadly it is usually so rainy (or so muddy) it is difficult to get outdoors for a picnic.
I would LOVE to visit Boone! I haven't spent much time in the NC mountains- I just went to Asheville for the first time this fall!! These photos are gorgeous!
